Volunteer at BCT

Here at Bremerton Community Theater, the dedication and passion of on-stage, backstage, and front-of-house volunteers are the lifeblood of every production. These volunteers bring stories to life, create seamless transitions, and ensure that every audience member has an unforgettable experience. Their collective efforts not only foster a sense of community but also make theater accessible and vibrant, enriching the cultural fabric of the area.

Volunteers can take on a variety of roles. On-stage positions include actors and singers who perform in front of the audience. Backstage roles involve set designers, costume makers, and stagehands who manage the technical aspects of the production. Front-of-house volunteers, such as ushers and hospitality staff, ensure that the audience has a smooth and enjoyable experience from the moment they enter the theater. Each role is crucial, offering unique opportunities for individuals to contribute their skills and passion to the magic of live theater.

Volunteering at a community theatre is a rewarding experience. Not only do you get to contribute to the vibrant local arts scene, but you also get to learn new skills, meet like-minded individuals, and experience the thrill of live theatre from a unique perspective. And—after fulfilling a volunteer commitment for a show—you’ll receive a complimentary ticket to see a performance. It’s our way of saying thank you for your valuable contribution.

To apply for a backstage position, please fill out the volunteer application form linked below. Completed applications can be emailed to boxoffice@bctshows.com, mailed to 599 Lebo Blvd, Bremerton WA 98310, deposited in our mail slot at 599 Lebo Blvd, or delivered in person.

FRONT OF HOUSE OPPORTUNITIES

In the performing arts, front of house is the part of a performance venue that is open to the public. In theatres, it consists of the auditorium and foyers, as opposed to the stage and backstage areas. With the exception of Day Box Office volunteers, the following are positions which we must fill for each performance. If treading the boards or working backstage is not necessarily your thing, then consider using your talents in a customer service position.

Hospitality — Prepares and serves refreshments during intermission using established procedures. Having a valid Kitsap Public Health Food Handler’s Card is not required, but preferred.

House Manager — Responsible for the smooth operation of the house (typically both the lobby and audience seating area) during the run of the show. House managers welcome the public to the theatre and oversee their safety and well-being before, during, and immediately after the show.

Day Box Office — Thurdays and/or Fridays from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. Performs sale of tickets at the window, answers the telephone, takes reservations, and answers questions from our patrons. Some computer skills and knowledge of web-based ticketing is required. Training is provided. References required. Background check may be required.

Showtime Box Office Manager — Responsible for preparing the box office for the scheduled performance. Prepares the banks for those stations that handle money. Resolves any ticketing issues and sales not handled by the shift box office staff. The box office manager reconciles the performance receipts. Some computer skills and knowledge of web-based ticketing is required. References required. Background check may be required.

Showtime Box Office — Performs sale of tickets at the window for the scheduled performance as well as completing reserved ticket sales. Training is provided. References required. Background check may be required.

Ticket Scanner/Will Call Desk — Scans tickets as the patrons arrive and handles the Will Call tickets for the performance.

Ushers — Assists patrons in locating their seats and such facilities as rest rooms and water fountains.

Raffle Desk — Performs the sale of raffle tickets.

Bartender — Readies the bar, prepares beverages and snacks from a limited selection, performs bar sales and end-of-shift paperwork. Mandatory Alcohol Server Training (MAST) is required by law for persons who serve, mix, sell, or supervise the sale of alcohol for on-premises consumption. If interested, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator for information about the course and reimbursement of fees.

ON-STAGE and BACKSTAGE OPPORTUNITIES

We are always on the lookout for new creative talent. If you have experience in live theater we're most interested in hearing from you. If you have a yearning to learn about a particular aspect of live theater many of our seasoned players and creative talent are pleased to teach what they know to an eager student.

Actors — You know who you are; we present at least 7 productions each year in our venues with varying requirements for each. Our Audition page presents the latest available information. More information is available at AACT.

Director — The work of the director is central to the production of a play, since it is the director who sets the vision for the production for everyone involved. More information is available at AACT.

Backstage/Technical crew — We're always looking for people to work as stagehands moving props, help with the lights and sound, or run the curtains. If you’re interested in working backstage and are not afraid of the dark this is the job for you. We also need people with electrician and computer skills.

Set Building — BCT has many different productions it puts on every year and each show must have a set or props built. If you can operate power tools, hand tools, or can paint, this job is perfect for you.

Costumers/Prop Gatherers — Every BCT production must have costumes and props! If you can sew, by hand or with a sewing machine, can follow a pattern, or are just in love with sewing then this is the job for you! Or if you like browsing the local thrift stores and yard sales this is the spot for you.

Assorted Skills

Photographer — BCT needs people to take pictures of every production and all of our special events for publicity. If you have a camera, and a passion for photography, this is the job for you!

Grounds Maintenance — Do you like to garden? If so this may be the perfect job for you. BCT needs to maintain its gardens and grounds and needs your help.
